FTP timing out DP+

Hi all, Happy New Year!!
Not sure what's changed because the FTP function worked for a while then suddenly began timing out.

Here's what I've tried so far. I verified that all the Publish Settings are correct and I have unlimited server space on my web host account. Also, I can upload using FileZilla with no issues using the same credentials. The only caveat with that method is that navigation graphics on the pages don't appear-just a broken link.

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the software and upon the first attempt it acted like it was going to upload but then froze on the first file (sorry I didn't have the brain cells to take a screenshot of that). I can export the site all day long but no upload.

I'm using my laptop, a Dell 14 7430 2-in-1 running Windows 11 Home x64.

I'm stumped! Thanks for any suggestions that might remedy this bizarre issue!

Something to test. More theory than fact.

I have found that sometimes, not always, if I have AVIF and Retina images ticked, the upload process gets stuck and gives up.

Go to Utilities > Web Properties > Website (tab) and see if you have AVIF and Retina selected. Now, solutions are very hazy. I can turn off Retina and it will upload, or I can deselect AVIF and select JPEG & PNG and it will upload, but I don't think selecting WebP and deselecting AVIF does...but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately my problem is that I can't upload the site from within DP+. I'm having to use FileZilla and it's been so long since I've used a 3rd-party FTP app I've forgotten all of the procedures - for want of a better word.

My answer is addressing uploading using Xara. However, if it didn't apply to your problem, we can go the FileZilla route,

You state you can upload using FZ, so I presume you want specific steps on what goes where.
1) Export from Xara to a folder.
2) Open FZ and look for the 'public_html' folder in the top right quadrant. If it looks like the first picture, then click the folder to open it. If it looks like the second, you are good to go.
3) Drag the contents of your Zara export folder into the lower right quadrant of FZ. If it asks to overwrite, say yes.

The files you are uploading should be a folder named 'index_html_file' and 'index.html' plus the names of any pages you created (contact.html, about.html etc.)

Hi Chris, thanks for the thorough explanation!

My main problem is that the FTP function in Xara DP+ stopped working. It simply times out - see the screenshot in my original post. I don't know if anyone else is having this issue. FZ is an alternative, yes, but I'd rather use Xara as there are some random formatting issues using FZ.

To me, this issue within DP is a bug.

so did you check that the port being used by xara was not being blocked by your firewall/router/ISP, as suggested by the error message ?

if FZ uploads then your connection probably is stable

it's just as likely to be something such as your security program[s] blocking xara, but not FZ, as it is to be xara itself

I ensured that the app is allowed through the firewall. My connection is fiber and there are no stability issues. AFAIK there are no changes to any security settings, especially since from one session to the next I was unable to upload thru Xara. There were no Windows updates prior to this issue.

It literally worked one day and the next it didn't.

I have contacted Xara support. I have used Xara products since 1998 and while I've had some procedural issues using the program over the years that were easily resolved using this forum, this one is a mystery.

My sincere thanks for all your efforts to help me! Hopefully support will have a solution. In the meantime I'll have to live with FZ's quirks.
