hseiken, the method you are using is just great. We all work a little different to get the same results. I use many layers building them up as I go. I do use highlights and shadows on their own layers. Keep doing what works for you because it is certainly working well. I think I may have posted WIP a few years ago on Talkgraphics.
    Cheers,
    Graham.

Results aren't always what I'm after...getting there faster before my patience dwindles is really what I look for in other people's processes...lol All the shortcuts and fun little tricks that save a couple mouse clicks...like, I didn't realize till re-looking at some old video tutorials from 15 years on youtube that the contour tool has a button that auto reshapes the shape to the temporary contour. I had been selecting the object, making the contour, setting it to 1 (cause i can't figure out how to default it to 1 cause i never use anything BUT 1), then 'convert to editable shapes', ungroup, then delete the original and NOW...i have what was actually just one click away the whole time...

Even if the only take away is rudamentary stuff like this, I like watching everyone's processes. Like, clouds...your clouds look pretty awesome. I have an idea of how I personal would attempt those clouds, but seeing how you do clouds might give me ideas on how to make completely different things.

I don't know, I'm definitely someone who enjoys watching other people make stuff as much as making stuff. lol

I cheat a little on the clouds hseiken. After I create them in vector I upload them to a paint program and feather out the edges.
