Default Opening File Problem - File not suitable for Filter

This is an old problem, had it for years across different PC's different versions, different files.

I try to open a Xara Document from Windows desktop with Xara already open and sometimes I get the error message...

"This file may not be suitable for this filter - are you sure you want to open this file?"

    I select open...

"an unknown PNG error has occurred (Not a PNG File)"

If I close Xara and restart it the same operation normally works with the document opening fine without error.

Very odd, and very annoying, any fixes or knowledge on this?

    Cheers

    Chris

Obvious question, but... are you sure it's a PNG file?

just a thought - you haven't got a filename with duplicate periods eg: filename.png.xar ?

Chris, do you get the same if you drag and drop the XAR onto the top toolbar?

Chris, I fairly regularly get this. As Acorn suggests above I just drag the file into the top toolbar which normally works fine for me. I don't know why the file won't open directly.

Hiya, unfortunately this is hard to recreate as it happens sporadically - however dragging and dropping isn't possible because I'm opening templates using some shortcut keys.

Chris, your two statements seem at odds.
Are you pressing ALt_F-N- initial letter (repeatedly - Return) to open a Template you've saved into Xara?

Hi there, I'll try to clarify.

To keep it simple, I'm double clicking a xara document in Windows.

For the purposes of my work environment I need to be able to do this regularly and it work every time.

To be clear, I'm not introducing any 'fault' in this procedure and it happens whether I'm double clicking, or asking from a simple command line instruction.

I know people might suggest to do it another way, but asking for the file through windows is perfectly valid and works when it wants to, and is necessary in this case

All Windows does is look at the associated program and hand it over, which it does, because its Xara that throws up the issue/error message.

This has been the case for a long time on different systems, different versions of Windows, and regardless of computer.

    Cheers

    Chris
