    Default Newb questions

Hello. I am using Xara Designer Pro X

I have an embryonic project buiiding a site for which it would be really useful if I could have features which I have not tried before:

A password protected area for all members of the society to access.
A password protected area where members can edit their own details.
A passworded area where other members of the committee can enter struff.

    Is this possible? TIA

Welcome to TalkGraphics Ostinato. Xara software produces static web pages. What you are requiring is best served from Content Management System (CMS) based software such as Wordpress or Joomla .

Xara can produce web pages that sit behind a password protected part of a server but this is down to your web hosting supplier, not the Xara software.

Ostinato, @Egg's Post is spot on.

Forget the Xara-designed site for the moment.
For 1. Can you currently set up a passworded folder or file on your server? If so then you can do the same for the Xara design but you cannot do it from within the application. This means you need access to the server provider's functionality.
For 3. To change a Xara design, you need a Xara application and therefore licensing cover. With the right Plus licence in place, your committee members might be able to make changes to the design through Xara Cloud. It would not be a path I would normally recommend.
For 2. Normally such would be possible only if you have a sever program (in PHP & MySQL) to do handle all the database features.

Sadly, there is no big reveal.
    1. You could build you own as mentioned above. The risk is the compromise of members' data when you get it wrong.
    2. You could buy into Xtom's XT-CMS package, https://www.xt-cms.com, that integrated with Xara designs. Quite expensive and domain restricted licensing.
    3. You could leverage Google Sheets to a degree and handle such transactions through Xara Placeholders. Probably rather messy.
    4. You could create all your layout in Xara but design everything else in WordPress. Can all be free and would cover all bases for you.
