Designer Pro+ - Update problem

I can assure you that XDP+ is installed and working

But, when I try to carry out an update, I keep getting this error.

Says, "Xara Designer Pro+ could not be located on your system. Re-install Xara Designer Pro+ and then run this update again."

Strange one Rik. Is this the 24.1 patch of 15th Oct 2024? mine updated no issue.Have you tried a clean reboot?

Rik, mine updated fine. Try cold boot of your machine, Run as administrator then retry the update.

If nogo, reinstall. You will lose unsaved work, file lists and most custom settings.

I am the Administrator in Windows.
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled.

So, any other ideas, or is there anything you guys suggested that I didn't quite understand?

I think acorn means right click on the program shortcut/startmenu and select run as administrator

And is it in the normal place C drive etc or somewhere else?

Rik, this is Windows. There are Administrators (group) and Administrator (user) with a special administrator account that is not fully admin as well as elevated permissions.
@handrawn was on the button with his suggestion. You are elevating the application so it can handle system accesses and possible changes.

In passing, it is never a great idea to run your system as admin on a day-to-day basis.

whilst i agree with this statement as a general rule, handrawn does; but I'm lazy and some of the software I use would be asking for the admin password frequently whilst running, which means I would be tied to the computer otherwise it would just wait; I guess I could switch users every time, but that's where the laziness comes in... and I'd have to remember/lookup the password every time if I wan't in admin yes there are risks I accept that

password managers ? - I guess a lazy person should love these, but... they have their drawbacks

That’s a strange one Rik, hopefully you and Xara are all good again now.

As a fairly recent + user I was surprised to be asked to manually close the program (XPGD+) before continuing to run the last update. I can’t ever remember having to do that in the past, even in the old days. Maybe the update app itself has been updated.
