    Default IDP.Generic threat since update

    Since the last update every time I open Web Designer my Avast anti virus comes up with "We've blocked TrueUpdateClient.exe because it was infected with IDP.Generic"

    I'm assuming that I won't get any more updates as Avast will block them. Is this an Avast error or could Xara be using something that 'could' contain a virus?

    Virus total reported 3 out of the 71 engines used in the test flagged TrueUpdateClient.exe as malicious. Strangely enough, Avast wasn't one of them.

    @Chris M - I would appreciate a lay interpretation of what this means.
    Norton thinks it's OK. I have 54 prior copies of it on my system and not one has flagged a virus, ever.

    @kilo - Xara previously mentioned a similar instance: https://helpandsupport.xara.com/xara...ateclient.html.

    Virus Total has been around for years and holds a solid reputation. The way it works is straight forwards.

    Upload a file or paste in a URL and the file is run through 71 (at present) different AV engines. In this case 3 red flags will almost certainly mean a false positive.

    The site has a premium section, community section, APIs and lots of nerdy stuff related to their work.

    Chris, great, never knew of it!

    Something else to be paranoid with.

    Thanks Acorn, I needed to amend something and took the gamble that Xara wouldn't be throwing viruses out there so allowed it.
