Thread: Picture Link

    Default Picture Link

What is the best method to make a picture link for my website?

Let me explain what I'm after. I have text on my website with one picture next to it. I want a picture link within the text that will take them to more pictures.

I looked around on the web for picture links and Google has some but I know they keep updating and any literature I find is many years old. I thought contacting this group would be the best route.

    Thank you!

It would help to know your Xara product and version.

Assuming you know how to add a text link, the link can be to a separate page holding your "more pictures", or to a pop-up layer with "more pictures" or to an anchor at the top of "more pictures" on the same page.

You need to describe what you want as your effect.

Do you mean you want a picture to be a link. As in, click the picture and it takes you to another page/site?

Click the picture to select it then Utilities > Web Propeties > Link (tab) > Link To Web or Email (external site) or Link To for a page in the same site.

Acorn, I have an old Xara Web Designer Premium 16. I don't have anything in my program that would allow me to create a link or place elements creating a picture link or slideshow. I do have placeholder but the only time I use that is for making a link for a single picture.

What I want to do is to create a link that would take someone to a picture album with no more than 8 or 10 pictures.

If there is a way for me to accomplish this using the placeholder please give me a few pointers and I'll figure the rest out. If not maybe you can recommend something online that I can use in my Xara Web Designer Program.

    Thank you!

again, you do not need to use a Placeholder to do any of this.

Your detail is still not that clear.
Describe the picture album. Is is another design page or something totally separate from the Xara design.
You have some text beside a picture. My reading of what you then want is some of that text to be a link to the album; @Chris M thinks the picture is the link. Which is it?

I have XWDPv15 and I can use that for what I imagine you are after.
Why not storyboard what you want.

I'm sorry I thought I was clear about what I wanted. I mean no disrespect.

Let me explain this way. I have a paragraph of text and in that paragraph, I describe what is going on in the picture attached to the paragraph. I want to create a link or a storyboard or anything that will show them more pictures similar to the picture in the paragraph.

It's like you wrote a story about your family and you have one picture attached to it but now you would like to create a link in the story showing other pictures of the rest of the family.

    Thank you.

Would a pop-up layer cover what you are after?

In the Page & Layer Gallery, click MouseOff, then New Layer. Name the layer something meaningful.
Ensure the layer is selected in the Page & Layer Gallery.
Create a rectangle the same colour as your page background and populate with pictures and/or text as if the rectangle were a standard page.

Once finished, select MouseOff in the Page & Layer Gallery, and highlight the text or button you going to use as your link.
Once selected: Utilities > Web Properties > Link (tab) > Pop-Up Layer (drop down menu). Select the name of the Layer. Click the Settings button and choose a Transition Effect and leave Close Pop-Up Automatically selected.

    @ Chris,

Followed your script and added an example that should work for Desktop and Mobile using v16.

    Photo_Link.xar

The only change I made was to uncheck the close popup automatically in settings ( to avoid accidentally closing it when looking at the gallery ). I applied the Export option of Scale-to-fit-Width introduced in v16.3 to ease the transition from desktop to mobile.

There are of course many ways of doing this.
