I'm bringing up a new computer and my Xara 3D5 seems to install fine, but does not accept my serial number. Tried many reinstalls and reboots with no difference. The same serial number is reported by Xara 3D5 in the old computer, so that's not it.

Anybody experience a similar problem? Any suggestions?

I have logged a Xara Support ticket, but I'm hoping our forum members will offer a quicker response.

    Christine,

You're suggestion to transfer the registry settings may have been the answer.

But it did get more complicated. In Xara's automated reply to my first support request they refer a user with install problems to:
    http://www.xara.com/downloads/extras/Xara3DPatch.asp
When I tried to apply the patch, it reported that it couldn't find Xara3D5!

Then I read your posting and tried the registry hack--hack used in the kindest sense--but Xara3D5 still asked for my serial number and then refused to acknowledge it.

Finally, I tried again to apply the patch. Now it worked and when I launched Xara3D5 it accepted my serial number (why it asked for it since the registry transfer had included it I don't know).

I award you a gold star on the not quite proven assumption that the registry transfer was part of the solution.

    Thanks.

PS We talked to my wife's Aunt in Exeter and she mentioned heavy rains. Hope it's better where you are.

    Al
