Default Low price Windows PC recommendations

    Hello all

I'm in the market for a new Windows PC! (Yes, yes I know I'm a Mac user!). My 10 year old laptop is showing its age (super slow boot up and loading programs) and can't be updated to Windows 11.

For reference the old laptop has a i3-4000M chip, 8GB memory and HDD.

If possible I don't really want to spend much more than around £250 UK pounds. I would also prefer reliability and quietness over anything fancy. I do however want it to run Photo & Graphic Designer.

So far I've been looking at some Intel N100 mini pc's made by Geekom and Beelink, but not sure they are capable enough, although the CPU benchmark comparisons seem encouraging. Also not sure if multicore/number of threads or graphics chips make much of a difference with Photo & Graphic Designer nowadays.

Any hints or suggestions would be more than welcome. There are so many different makes and specs I'm struggling to make a decision.

    TIA

Jon, I got my last laptop from Morgan Computers as Used A1 condition. It looked mint on arrival with 1 yr warranty.

you can ask xara, but i would think P&G will run on any decent modern computer

I see amazon are currenly selling the beelink alderlake n-100 for 219 GBP with 50GBP voucher off - great deal, or an indiction they don't sell ? I don't know

you might struggle to get a laptop for your budget that is reliable and quiet - we have a lenovo 14in core i5 , but you get what you pay for, it cost around 500 GBP but has been two years or more trouble free

EDIT - re acorn's post; I would never recommend a secondhand/refurb computer, but that's me...

WOOT.com (owned by Amazon) has a lot of refurbished computers, laptops as well, at good prices. The offerings change frequently https://www.woot.com/category/computers?ref=w_ngh_cp_5

My suggestion Is to update tour hard drive with SSD drive. This alone will improve the performance of your machine.
Said fron the proidly owner of a very old but still effettive Core2Duo PC.
