Exclamation Apologies and a Xara gift

Fool Disclosure: I suck at maintaining a thread. I retired last year, and it just feels like a lot of heaving lifting to keep the pulse going without any interaction. Last post was in April.

However, now that I've started a new post, maybe some exchange can happen here.

I discovered some inspired 2D examples, uncredited, on a geometry forum. I feel okay about basing my work on some of them because it took a ton of head-scratching to model what I saw as a flat drawing, to estimate the angle and what hidden areas look like.

After several shapes, I decided I wanted vector versions of what I' 'd modeled and rendered, and there's no good reason not to share them here.

Feel free to use them in your work. Because they're 3D representations, you can scale, rotate along one axis in space, and move them around. I found a good way to record objects why they don't have saved colors, is to get out the Color Editor, and in the HSV color model, see what the saturation of one of the component shapes is. Change the Hue to what you want, note the new Hue value, and then select the rest of the pieces one at a time, and then type or (paste) your beloved new Hue into the box.

    My Best,

    Gary

They are fun to create and play around with Gary. I've copied yours and made them using named colours. They work very well as vectors on a web page but i needed to remove any feathering as svg won't allow that. Do you still have the link to the original source please?

Lightbulb Re: Apologies and a Xaea gift

I'm not sure in context what "the original source file" is Eric.

And I'm pretty sure I didn't apply feathering to any of the completed files.

What I did was go back to my model, rearranged pieces so they're all in the clear for tracing, and then rendered a high-res PNG within a Xara file.

Will this do for some independent fun?

You don't mean FBX files or anything, do you?

    Slightly confused but otherwise fine,

Can and have done, at least a couple dozen of them.

Now, you don't have to wait to experiment. Still, I've got some artistic math info and converting file formats...and some pure speculative stuff I cannot upload today because it needs a video, and the Big Debate is in a few hours. I need to get some lager and popcorn from the Superette a few blocks away.

Surely you can just trace off the example and then color them in, but that is not what I did. More on the 'morrow,

Yes that's what I've been doing but I was wondering how you can create a 3D shape and rotate/scale it about the three axis, which isn't possible within Xara, so I'll wait for your method tomorrow.
    Obviously a 3D program.

Meanwhile here's my latest fun with your shapes all pure svg vector shapes.

Okay, Egg, because in theory this is the 3D forum, I'll toss in a "yes, a 3D program—along with your wits and a short tutorial, can take this abstract polygon stuff from 2D on a page, to a "blueprint for modeling all six aspects of the implied geometry, to lighting, to making a pose through your modeling program's viewport that is interesting AND unlike the pose in the original 2D drawing.

To me, the fun is the challenge, and I do remember you doing something with a lighthouse wasn't it, so if you own a basic modeling program, at the end of the day today, I will post the result file from a video tutorial I'm desperately trying to finish.

We thank you for your patience. :)

Here's the 2D drawing I'll show how to transmogrify.

Is there a program that can animate SVG files?!

By the way, your video is very fun, inventive, and should be an inspiration to all Xarists here!

Both, the only advanced tool that comes to my mind is SVGator, but it is a web app that focuses on CSS animations, rather than SVG animation elements like Boxy SVG. A picky point perhaps and the online version 3 may now be totally different.
SVGator has a limited free version but is $20/m for its PRO one - https://app.svgator.com/pricing#/.
Have a play at Boxy SVG Editor (boxy-svg.com), its download is free.

For both approaches, I have also used the free Anime.js v3.2 (https://animejs.com/documentation/) but Egg does not like the lack of a visual timeline, which SVGator has in spades.
The good news is Anime.js v4 is almost out - https://github.com/juliangarnier/ani...in-Anime.js-V4 with a useful timeline component.
It comes with a powerful morphing component, previously only readily available with GreenSock, paid version.

I suspect Anime.js may go for a similar payment system. I'll keep an eye out for its release.
