Hey Acorn. I would like to explore the availability of food and drinks related symbols that may be available from this zip package. I've downloaded the zip that you linked here. How does one install it and make them available to Xara Designer via the Insert Symbol... menu function?

No, sorry. FA is moving to v5 and has gone very, very commercial.

You cannot just add in FA to Xara's Symbol capability.

I am not in a position to do the work for you as I will not be needing it myself.

What I said previously still works for the ZIP file.
Open the SVG folder and drag them into your deign page.
    Xara converts them to shapes.

I am using Xara Designer 11. The FA insert dialog shows the categories but not the icons. However, they are available in browsers: http://downloadsv11.xara.com/web/cha...haracter.html? OR http://downloadsv12.xara.com/web/cha...haracter.html? a different set. Is there a fix for this? I have not used these much but this seems to be broken from my point of view.

There are interesting alternatives to FA like https://fontello.com/ (which has FA icons with SIL license and many others). Using a font editor one can relocate the characters to the location of basic characters (A-Z, etc.). With a printed character map, it is relatively easy to locate and enter suitable characters for projects.
