HELP. My thumbnails are gone!

New Computer same issue ... Windows 11

No matter what I do, I cannot get the Thumbnails to show. Run as Administrator and I get the notice that the .dll registry completed successfully ... or however it was worded.

Any additional things I should try?

I have just started using a Windows 11 laptop for my main design work. I use Xara Designer Pro+. I cannot view Xara files as thumbnails. I have researched the problem and used the Command Prompt with Administrator Privileges to register the dll's using regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Xara\Xara Designer Pro+\XaraDLLs\XarThumbs64.dll" which it did successfully. I have closed Windows Explorer, re-opened it, refreshed the thumbnails, yet still cannot view .xar thumbnails. Has anybody found a fix to this yet? I have never had a problem viewing xara thumbnails before. I have looked through the threads on here.

EDIT—fixed. The issue was my laptop insisting on putting my work folders in OneDrive. I had an idea and copied a .xar file directly to the C drive, instantly showing a thumbnail. The issue was OneDrive. I've moved my work folders out of OneDrive!

I don't know, because I avoid OneDrive like the plague, but I wonder if your folder was set to be "online only". In that mode files are not actually locally stored, and instead, are kept on the OneDrive servers without taking up disc space on your laptop. You can still "see" the files, but they take up no space. When you try opening them, the OneDrive software goes off to download the file from the OneDrive server, and then that one file is on your laptop, and you can open/edit as normal.

As the thumbnail comes from inside the .xar file, the file has to be stored locally for the thumbnail to be shown.

I can't say that I hate OneDrive - I work in tech support, and OneDrive causes so many people so many problems that its existence is good for business.
