    Default Rendering Speed/Delay

    Hi,

I have an issue when zooming in and out of drawings specifically with brushes where the resolution is super low and takes a while, or sometimes for me to make some view or object movements over the top before they decide to render at correct resolution.

PC Specs are pretty good, it's a new build...but Xara Designer Pro 18.5 until the new Perpetual Version comes out.

    i5 3.5Ghz Upwards
    32GB RAM
1TB SSD (to CPU not chipset PCI)
Gigabyte Motherboard of some sort can't remember
NVIDIA Graphics Card, think it's a 1650 with Studio Driver
    Windows 11 64Bit

    Any advice?

that is a known problem with the brush rendering - the screen has to be redrawn everytime you change zoom, even incrementally, and because it is not pure vector this takes time; it is not your PC, it is the way the program works

Thanks for that, the weird thing is I've used on various different systems and the rendering has been snappy on some, this new system is even slower, sometimes it doesn't render properly at all unless I 'do' something.

    Chris, perhaps disable Live Drag?

art brushes are the ones that do this; scatter brushes do not

not sure about live drag; locking the brushes on their own layer might also help if practical, can't remember offhand...

make sure you graphics drivers etc are all up to date...

I think I found a fix to this!

In Options / Tune-Ups, disable Cache Control.

    Anyone care to confirm this?

    Cheers

    Chris

yes I have tried this with designer 19 using the line gallery hair 1 brush, and unticking the cache control stops this from happening

what else this may do I cannot say

bit ironic when help says caching is intended to speed things up...

I know, maybe more relevant for lesser specified systems?

I notice no adverse effects, the only effect being it fixes this issue for me - but then again this system I'm on right now is quite well specified.

Somebody should be told about this issue/fix I feel it's important.

I've just used the same brush as you and and confirm this fix is still necessary and works in v23
