As for the question is it art ,one could say yes, as mankind has always tried to find a way to get a result in a faster (and cheaper) way.
But I fear for my children's future as AI isn't only impacting the arts.

since photography is art - here's an AI usage that caught my attention:

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/techn...gle-best-take/

so the camera will now edit the photo as you take it, to give everyone a smile regardless of their actual expression, well that's the theory

no idea how well it works; what I do know is that before too long realtime processing, as opposed to post-processing, will become common - and the result may be that photos as a record of what actually took place will become less and less reliable

@handrawn Those people are miserable lol they should hide from the camera if they can not afford to smile. Maybe it is their bad teeth.

Photography was not always considered art and had a tough time being included in the NY Met Art in the early 1900's. The discussion with AI as art closely parallels the discussion of photography as art.

and yet good photography requires manual skill and much experience; if AI is used as a reference from which to use these skills fair enough, otherwise it is in danger of just being a complex way of painting by numbers...

Here's what I find utterly astounding. Not just the ability for Midjourney AI to create these four variations of "a golden butterfly with silver markings and jewels" in less than three minutes, but the degree of artistic skill and beauty in these images. I have worked with the best illustrators in the business who if given an assignment to come up with this image could do so. But it would take days, maybe even weeks.

Even the choice of background which I did not specify is perfect.

Yesterday I watched someone build a portfolio of logo designs one after another that were incredibly handsome and elegant designs. And this person will probably be offering his/her/their design services on the internet and the joke of it is, he/she/they can offer consistency of design. For pennies on the dollar.

The professional world of creativity as we know it is over.

In reply to the OP ask - Yes.

What comes to mind is Damien Hurst and his art.
    He is the questioner.
His studio technicians are the AI helpers.

He then claimed the works as his as he thought of them.

Sir Antony Mark David Gormley OBE RA sculpts his bodyforms.
Others create his installations with inputs to their aspect as one person could not.

    Ultimately, art is creativity.
That way, I can claim that I am an artist when I craft a website or project manage a new IT system; each is unique and sufficiently removed from being formulaic.
I do refute any slur that my artistry extends to my drinking.

AI overemployed is just artifice, in its worst meaning.
