Page & Layer Gallery: Lock/Unlock feature grayed-out

Hi Everybody.

You can see that the "pasteboard layer" lock/unlock button is grayed-out, while the contents of that layer, the "rectangle" is active.
( I've locked it, but I can easily unlock it )
All I've done is place an object on the layer.



How have I caused the layer lock/unlock to be inactive?

Paul, you have done nothing. It's the way Xara ensures there is always a Pasteboard Rectangle big enough for more circumstances.
It is the size of the page and includes the Page Size > Page > Outer margin that has been set.

Now you can delete the Pasteboard altogether and a Reset will add back a Rectangle of the above dimensions.

Any objects added will always show as Visible; they cannot be hid.
They cannot have Links but Placeholders still work.

co-authors to any work I do.

I'm still unclear with the lock/unlock feature in the Page & Layer gallery.

• The lock/unlock feature can be active or inactive on any layer on any page.
• The contents of a layer always have an active feature, but not the full layer itself.

I hope I'm not worrying about nothing here. It's a little like going on a vacation and wondering if
I left the stove "on". Am I leaving something out or in that could turn into something terrible?

Paul, a Layer Lock is almost the trump card; you can drop anything onto one such Layer and Xara will tell you you cannot then select it.
That object is unlocked.

Take the Guides layer. You lock it to avoid moving the lines or shapes as it is your layout control.
You only unlock it to move items around.

Objects can be be Locked or not.
The trump is Soft-grouped object across layers.
Lock everything, layers and objects but keep one open object on a unlocked layer that is itself unlocked.
Move it and the others follow. This was the design decision when hover buttons were introduced.

Do whatever, it cannot break anything, just muck up your design or mind.
