Best Xara FTP settings

I have been using the basic FTP settings in Designer Pro forever. But I should update to something more secure. What do you recommend.

Gary, probably the simplest is to use FTP over TLS.
You keep the same FTP settings but transactions are encrypted with Transport Layer Security (TLS).
In FileZilla, I set "Use explicit FTP over TLS if available", which it always is.
Xara calls this FTPS (FTP over SSL/TLS).

If you instead use SFTP, I believe you have to alter the Port as advised by your ISP.
For Xara Hosting, I have SFTP active.
Xara calls this SFTP (SSH-FTP).

SFTP is more secure but when certificates expire, you have a lot of digging to reconnect.

NameCheap sent me specific settings for Filezilla using SFTP. These settings work in Filezilla but not in Xara.

Port for SFTP: 21098

Do I need to add .com21098 after the ftp address? sftp://server259.web-hosting.com

Gary, the Port number appears after the FTP address. You enter colon and the port number after the dot com part with no spaces.

sftp://server259.web-hosting.com:21098 goes into the FTP host address.

I have a strange problem that has only just appeared concerning ftp upload through Web Premium...When I no enter the ftp setting Xara keeps replacing the ftp address without the "ftp" element? I have re-installed programme but it just keeps altering the hostname - I have even edited the setting in registry but it does not keep the info? Working fine until this week and I can use filezilla but have got used to Xara...

In your 'FTP Host Address' box, you should have:
ftp.neapoli-crete.com

Hi Chris - Many thanks for the reply and that is the problem - every time I set up the ftp address Xara is removing the "ftp" and replacing it with neapoli-crete.com. I have even edited the registry and replaced with ftp address but it just keeps changing it ....

Yes, sorry about that. I should have actually read what you typed instead of just looking at the pretty pictures.

I would reset the registry if I were you.

Try the old turn it off and back on again trick. Clear all the settings and 'OK'. Close and restart Xara. Did the setting remain blank? If so repeat by putting the settings back in.

It's straw grabbing, but worth a shot.
