Nope just does it all on it's on. Even when I'm actually not doing anything with Xara it's just open.

The first thing we always recommend is close Xara. Then right click on the Xara program icon and select Run as Administrator. This frequently cures a variety of ills. You only need try this once and it will either work or it won't.
