Lightbulb Working with Guides and Variants

The following is covering Variants' use but could be applied in web design as well.

If you create Guidelines using the Ruler to place Lines to act as construction anchors for your page then when you create a Variant, the Guidelines do not adjust to fit the new page.
Similarly, when you change the page height or width, you have to rework your Guidelines.

    Try this approach:

    • Start on the MouseOff layer.
    • For my 1440x900px page, I created 10 144x900 vertical Boxes with no Line fill to cover the page.
    • Select all the Boxes.
    • Auto-fit to Page and apply Stretch both H&V.
    • Create a Guides Layer.
    • Move the ten Boxes to the Guides layer and Lock it.

Now when you create a Variant page, or alter any page height or width the ten Boxes always fill the page.

Remember to set Snap to Guides On.

That's clever Acorn. Can't say I'm a big user of guides but I can see the benifit of using this method.
