    Unhappy Norton 360 for Gamers

I've had a few frustrating days with Norton.

I was very happy with BullGuard but Norton just bought them out.
One recent day Norton 360 for Gamers seamless replace BullGuard, well, almost seamlessly.

    XPro+ died!
It took 3'30" to load and then froze.
It could freeze for 5 minutes or longer, act fine for minutes to seconds and lock again.

I unticked almost everything Norton had, to no avail.

It took days to locate the problem.
I was using Xara Backup to a USB drive on E:\.
I changed it to a PC hard drive and tada! all working.

I even tried copying 1GB of files to the stick and I was getting a transfer rate of 8kB/s.
So the fault seems to be with the stick.

All happened when XPro+ was updated, Norton arrived and the stick seems to have taken a dive.

Now back to setting Norton to a less lax set-up.

My past experiences with Norton (apart from Ghost) were it killed a machine's performance. A bit like the initial Microsoft Office for Windows.

My running of the Gamer suite for a few weeks has been overall positive.

PC cooling system repaired. It now blows our cold air chilling my leg whereas before it warmed me and the dog.
A new mouse for my gamey hand.
    XPro+ updated.
    AV secure.

What more can one ask for?

lower taxes ... ok strike that out for a year or two....

my impression of norton was the same back in the day, when trying it out as a bundled 'freebie' starter on laptop - glad it's got better and you got it sorted

my eset will run a background check for hours wasting resource if I hibernate the desktop overnight more than once or twice in sucession, inconvieient... it does not happen on the laptop so i suppose I could get to the bottom of it given time, but life is short andi is not an actual security malfunction; they all have their little foibles...
