    Default Scaling - somethings changed

I think I missed the memo. I'm importing jpegs, logos and photos. I used to be able to click a corner, then shift hold > right mouse click > move the point towards the centre, and logo or picture becomes smaller. It was fast and easy.

Now upon import and trying to resize - it looks like the jpeg has its own constrained area. I can't make the entire jpeg, or logo smaller. I'm missing something. I have also downloaded the most recent Pro+. The jpegs and logo are acting like entirely different animals. I did check the properties of each and both are jpegs. The logo is not in a soft group, or group.

This is a major problem for me at the moment.

Attached is the pic of the selection, then what I do when I select > hold shift > and try to resize.

Is Lock Aspect Ratio enabled? I think if it is not then what his happening will happen.

Hi Gary - that's what I thought at the beginning, and that's caught me before. But aspect ratio is not locked. I'll try to run as adm and see what happens.

(10 min later) .. just ran as adm and that didn't help.

I isolated a jpeg on another page and a visual of the problem.

Bill, when you are scaling, the Aspect Ratio should be set otherwise you can distort the image.
Here, you seems to be cropping.

Have you tried inputting a Width directly?
Try switching to the Photo Tool and resize from the bottom right corner.

If you have a recent XPro+ download, power off & on and then Run as Admin.

Both Gary and Acorn are flagging the Aspect Ratio, but your eyes are skipping over the icon. According to my wife, I have the same problem with dust on my desk.

I shall metaphorically wipe my finger over your metaphorical desk and wiggle it in front of your nose.

Bill, what you are getting is because Aspect Ratio is Off and Smart Transform is On.

I suggest you right-click on the icon and untick Smart Transform.
Then when you toggle Aspect Ration to any, the cropping will not happen.

    Smart Transform Off
    Aspect Ratio Off - Squish/Squash.
    Aspect Ratio On - Scaling.
Hold the Alt key first then middle controls crop & scale else squish/squash.

    Smart Transform On
Aspect Ratio Off - Cropping if smaller; scaling and cropping if larger.
    Aspect Ratio On - Scaling.
Hold the Alt key first then middle controls squish/squash else crop & scale.

I have also set up a Quick Key 7 to toggle Smart Transform.

I far prefer Xara drop the Smart transform as a UI hidden asset and have the default as the first list above.
    Far easier to remember.

Well that was embarrassing. Thanks @chris M and @acorn. The lock icon was off. And it should have been on. Frick ..this got me last year too.

Great explanation Acorn. I’m printing and making a hard copy. I wasted a couple of hours and a couple of Advil on that one.

Yknow what got me, on some MS programs, and perhaps something in Apple - there’s a little padlock that when unlocked actually presents an unlocked padlock icon, then when on it’s actually an icon of a locked padlock.

Chris as my wife would say “See, see .. they knew!”
As a manly excuse I blamed getting my seniors flu shot.

Thanks everyone again. Much appreciated. Onward ..
