There's another consideration for the object in the foreground that this depends on whether or not it is the focal point or just there to add depth to the image.

The object in the foreground could be dark and in silhouette.

Yep. And to prove it's real, he's right there in the photo of Lake Eerie.

The unknown low orbiting planet and the trout the size of a submarine passes the reality check, but the guy clearing away the bulrushes is picked on. That's creature profiling, is that.
