As well as the fact that the AV normally tells you, what is about to happen - delete/warn etc...

so it's a mystery.... it's not unknown for AV/Firewalls to tailor their installation defaults in a machine specific way but like you say we shall see
maybe it is an installation/update error as you also mentioned; without examining the computer, difficult to say at this stage
