Thread: Text behavior

    Default Text behavior

    Hello,

can someone please explain me what is the sense of the fine (here red) line in the text tools and especially how to remove it again. It seems that sometimes it comes "by itself" after some text manipulation. For me it just makes everything more complicated, especially when working with websites very annoying. If I want to move a text I do it faster, easier "old school".

    Thanks, TomTom

The red line indicates that you (apparently inadvertently) created a text line with the Text Tool. When you fill the line with text, it will automatically overflow to a next line, thus creating a column. By moving either the right or the left little squares at the end, you can widen or narrow the column. You can only remove it by deleting the text and pasting it into a text box.

    Thanks, TomTom
TomTom, this is a Text Column.
It has always been like this back to version 5 at least.

    You have three text modes.

    1. Text Line, where you click and type. To continue on a new line you have to press Enter.
    2. Text Column, as you type words automatically wrap to the next line. You can drag either end horizontally to make the line width longer or shorter. If you drag vertically, you change it to a Text Area.
    3. Text Area, is defined by a green box with a dotted overlay. You can collapse in into a Text Column. Text Boxes can be linked one to the other, can force new pages with the same box, can auto-fit text to the box or shrink font size to fit the box.

The way to move text is to switch to the Selector tool and click-drag to a new position.
