Hello Handrawn,
I deleted everything Xara on the new laptop, found the last exe I had from my old laptop and used that on the new laptop and it verified and went online - yay I thought! Then it told me I needed to update, which made sense, then the updater started to load-up, all seems good, then the updater said it couldn't find the software and I had to reinstall it and try again.
How does that work. I was using the software it couldn't find - the installer created the folder and file path - it makes no sense at all
David
when you say deleted do you mean uninstalled, or more than that ?
did you try right clicking and running the program as administrator first? - if not then you could do that now
something was blocking the program from accessing the internet originally; this is often an 'over-zealous' security program treating it as suspicious
as for your reinstall and update issue, not sure; it may be the same kind of issue...

Hiya,
Yes I completely cleared Xara from my new laptop, every single aspect of it, and then reinstalled an old exe. and all worked much better except for that latest screenshot.
I've been through every bit of AV and security stuff on my laptop, turning them on and off and nothing seems to change. I've run as administrator, makes no difference.
This is the problem it is so frustrating.
the exe shouldn't really make a difference, unless they are #hash identified in some way in the pro+ authenitication [for updates] ?
sorry cannot be of more help... hopefully xara can

Thanks, there is definitely something different in the exe's the older one works okay but can't find the software for the update, the latest one just says it's offline for updates and won't allow any offline components to be accessed. I've contacted Xara but to be honest they are just going to ask me to do all the things you have said and I have fiddled about with.
If it can't be resolved I'll just start using Affinity properly, no problems loading that onto my new laptop and it'll bye-bye after using this software for a very, very long time. I cannot afford to pay the money I do on it only to find it doesn't 'simply' work on my new laptop.
SOLVED
We have moved to Scotland and TalkTalk don't supply to the village we moved to so we changed to Sky as an ISP and they have a 'shield' on the service which is on a default setting of 13+ blocking porn, gore and violence but for some reason it also blocked Xara's online stuff [perhaps because it begins with X?] anyway I added Xara as an allowed site and upped the rating to 18 and all is solved.
My stupid fault, I even thought of this much early but thought it was too easy and simple to be the problem.
Anyway just in case anyone gets a similar problem that was my solution.
