Default PNG image has some background image

I didn’t know what to call this but it’s happened before and it’s user error. I’m constructing a new page and don’t want to make the same mistake.
You’ll notice on the screen shot, the oval with text has taken on the background of the photo. I first thought I had copied and moved the oval to a new location, thus taking some of the photo background with it. I believe that’s what I did. Would I solve this by putting the oval on a separate layer?

    Thanks everyone

looks to me like the oval and backgound are an image [which you may already know] and presumably the original oval is not... unless it sits over the original background in such a way as for it not to be noticable

a non alpha image is always going to 'take the background with it'

I think that’s it has handrawn. But if the oval is placed on an entirely new layer, would it take the background?

I am not a website builder - if the oval is a vector and you copy it to a new layer as a vector then it should not, but if you copy it as an image then it will; it will become an image if you group it with something [or itself]

that is about as far as my knowledege goes for web pages

Hi Bill. the problem is that Xara is exporting your oval & associated text as a jpg which doesn't have transparency.

You need to force Xara to export this image as a png with Alpha. Use the Web Properties / Image & select Losless Compression (i.e. PNG) Also select Export Group as a Single Image if your Xara version has that option.
