Software keeps reverting to a different tool

When I'm working, usually using the selector tool, the program all too often reverts to a different tool, for example, if I'm working with images using the selector tool it will change to the photo tool, or also when working with shapes in selector, the program will change to the shape tool. It's annoying because it breaks up the rhythm of my work to so frequently have to change tools. Is there any way I can prevent this?

I know what that sounds like Charles but I cannot reproduce your problem.

if you double click on an object it can switch tool or mode - eg if you double click on an image it will switch to photo tool, and this may be what you are experiencing; I also find it infuriating but AFAIK there is no way to change this particular mouse behaviour in the program

Perhaps it's a sticky input issue. Try a different keyboard and mouse?

charliescoffee, I changed the F8 key to 'Toggle to Selector Switch' instead of 'Text Tool'.
There have been other subtle changes since your XDPXv10.
