    lasm,

are you using the Win32 or the Linux Version of Gimp ??
If I download Gimp, will I need any extra plugins to achieve this effect ??

I saw that the Win32-Version of Gimp is pretty old, can it still do that ??

    Thanks
    Wolfgang

    >are you using the Win32 or the Linux Version of Gimp ??

I used both versions. They are fully cross-platform compatible for most practical purposes.

    >If I download Gimp, will I need any extra plugins to achieve this effect ??

This is a FX effect which I developed using Gimp's plugins. Some effects are too complicated,
and cannot be scripted. For this line-art effect, yes it can be scripted.

A script in Gimp is like the action file in Photoshop. The basic idea is the same, to create the same effect repeatedly. There is however one big difference. Photoshop actions are recordable. Anyone who knows how to click on play, record, stop button will be able to create a PS action file easily. Scripts in Gimp are not recordable, they are programmable, which means they take longer to produce, need debugging etc. If you are comfortable with script programming, such as VB scripts, ASP, javascripts, CGI etc., creating a Gimp script would be easy for you, not otherwise.

I like this effect and I am trying to perfect it. I have scoured the internet and could not find any technique which comes close to this. If you like it, why not join gimpi@yahoogroups.com mailing list,
and bug me every now and then ;-) so I will remember to write the script, but it will probably take a few weeks to do it right. At gimpi mailing list there are dozens of ready-made scripts for line-art and other effects which you can download...

    >I saw that the Win32-Version of Gimp is pretty old, can it still do that ??

Anything that is version 1.2.X and above is O.Kay.

BTW, this was the same reason why I was attracted to Gimp several years ago.. I saw something created in Gimp which could not have been done in any other programs, and I just have to investigate it ;-)

    Merry Christmas,
