    To clip a bitmap to a cutout there are two ways
    1) Draw the cutout over the bitmap, select both and select menu option combine shapes->intersect shapes, OR
    2) Select the bitmap, use convert to editable shapes, then edit the path around the bitmap to the shape you wish.

    No clipview required.

    Clipview is usually used when you wish to clip vector objects, including strokes, and multiple, group and complex objects.
    The simple case of clipping a single bitmap is done by making it a fill of a single vector path.

    One application of clipviews I use often is to clip bevels, rather than use convert to editable shapes, so that editability is retained.

    Clipping whole pieces of clipart to a shape is another regular use.
