For me, if I had grown up with Illustrator, then I would more than likely use Affinity Designer.
But, I didn't and find the tools in Xara so easy to use.
I also do a lot of work, off the page - keep versions of things I'm drawing and so on.
AD doesn't allow that.
It is what you get used to and find easy to use, and that's why I've stuck with Xara.
The price of AD is amazing, though.

I am sure this could be done in xara, I just love the way the coast has been rendered making the most of vector strengths, and using it's 'limitations' to advantage
[plus I recognise some of my favourite places - whitby for one...]

Really like Ian Mitchell's work.
Rik, that's what 'Artboards' are for!
In Affinity Designer on a regular page, go to the menu option: View --> View mode --> and deselect 'Clip to Canvas'. That will then let you see and store things off the page as per Xara. Alternatively, and better still, make multiple artboards to store different versions of your work. They're a bit like pages in Xara but laid out on one big page and can also be accessed via the layers panel.
