...Create a Box with Repel Text Under.
It snaps to objects with other shapes.

Bug - Make one of these shapes Text Inside or a Text Column or Area and the Box fails to snap, even when not intersecting the shape under it.

I'm not sure why you would have other shapes or objects near the text. I have had good luck with repel shapes.

In this instance, I create a special shape so the text would not fill in behind the right side of the character/objects.

Gary, imagine, for a moment, that your cursive is to be aligned to the top of the text without your heading and authorship present. That top alignment would be by eye as the snap would fail. Without snapping, you have lost consistency. Many of the SmartShapes fail in this way.
