Anybody have a quick tutorial on “live copies”

I’m having a little trouble understanding the concept.
- live copies are like repeating elements, but they can be moved
- change one and they all change.

Bill, they are not rocket science but they do have a few rules.

The main trick is to understand the general concept of a Group.
An action on the entire group should be seen as a local edit.
If you open a group, then an edit inside is a global edit.
A Ctrl+Select on a group object is a global edit.

Typically, there is no distinction between global and local.
In the case of Live Copies, change one's Transparency results in a local change.
Click inside and you can apply another Transparency and this is applied globally so that the one shape can have two different transparencies at the same time.

A colour change is a change of all shapes in the Live Copy so it affects all Live Copies.
That is the main reason Xara introduced Unique Live Copies in XPro+v21.6.

If you Stop Live Copy, the global Transparency disappears.
