Thumbs up Why Pro+ Shapes as SVG is important for Web Presentation

I think those of us with a Pro+ Subscription have just got a neat Christmas pressie early from Xara.

Name:	OCT.jpg
Views:	52
Size:	93.3 KB
ID:	131125

The design file for this has two pages - both identical apart from the second has all the Stars that were in a number of Lines converted to Shapes.

    LineTree page:
    43 requests
    1.7 MB transferred
    1.7 MB resources
    Finish: 265 ms
    DOMContentLoaded: 168 ms
    Load: 240 ms

    SVGTree page:
    11 requests
    418 kB transferred
    416 kB resources
    Finish: 238 ms
    DOMContentLoaded: 186 ms
    Load: 231 ms

This longer DOM content Load time is down to the HTM file being 104kB now ; the first page is 10kB.

Across my local network there will have been little latency.
The pressie comes when you are on a mobile or slow broadband.

Say you had a fast ping of 10ms.
The extra 32 HTTP requests would take another 320ms to fetch the images.
So roughly, the SVG page is now loading twice as quickly.
Smaller payload, quicker page completion, sharper shapes.

    NOTE
The design file will work in earlier XDA versions; it will have a worse performance as each Star will be rendered as its own image in the SVGTree page! (1,800ms Load for 355 requests)

    Interesting results Acorn.

Did a similar test using your files. Run them through pingdom and got interesting results (in pop up in each page)

The Page Speed Insites was also excellent for the mobile svg page giving 99%
