    Default Image using opacity mask

    I was just having a quick catchup on the forum and Acorn’s post, 'fancy corners with masks' caught my eye.

    Obviously it's a shame corner styles are not fully implemented as with other vector apps, but it did get me wondering if I had ever used an opacity mask in the past.

    It turns out I had, back in 2019 for the image below. At the time I even made margin notes, but when it came to that crucial step, I just wrote 'apply opacity mask'!

    Anyhoo, for the first time in weeks I fired up my Windows laptop and Xara and reversed engineered the drawing to see if I could work out how I did it.

    Basically I used the mask painter tool to 'erase' areas, converting the masked area to an opacity mask (keyboard shortcut 'O').

    @Jon, very, very inventive.
    I like the cowboy on the bullet, very Dr Strangelove.

    I'm not sure how you managed the sphere. A Circular Enveloped doesn't cut it so I'm guessing you included another filter.

    Cool idea adding production notes. I need to start doing that. I totally forget what I have done on older images, if I ever did know.

    Acorn - I had a method of apply masks, which apropos of my first comment I have forgotten but it could product a similar fish-eye distortion.

    Attached is an example done in 1999.

    Looks great Jono thanks, good idea using margin notes as to how you did it, I had done something in the past I just didn't use margin notes just an how I did it file.

    Thanks all for nice comments

    @handrawn "welcome back" made me grin

    @Acorn and @handrawn, yes, I used the Deformation Filter --> Fish Eye Perspective for the sphere.

    @GWP - Production notes. Unfortunately I've not always made them. That's a great image from 1999!

    @Larry - Thanks. It's scary how quickly I forget the small details. I guess it's also down to what you've got going on in your life at the same time.
