Have you tried creating the curved text, copying it. Then paste the text onto the image as an opacity mask?

Promidi, it is a great suggestion.

I have tried with Black Text on a 20% White Transparency banner with some Feathering.
I cannot get Feathering to work well with the text.
Instead, I have added an Outer Contour, 25 Steps, to softer the text edging.



Working with text on curves is just as easy.
