This is loosely inspired by the movie poster of The Sand Pebbles, which had a Chinese junk with a gun boat in front. I was in the Navy in Vietnam and this is supposed to be my ship, USS Alamo LSD-33. The back of the ship came down and the well deck filled with water and boats came in and out. We landed Marines and then took our papa boats (LCP) up the rivers supporting them. I downloaded a photo of my ship and tried to draw it as best I could. Then used stylized sales for the background, to read as Vietnam.

I like it, Tim your description sounds familiar I was a Marine and remember those kinds of ships, although I was lucky enough not to go to Vietnam just Cuban missile blockade.

And I was lucky to fit between the two wars unscathed. I was too young for Viet Nam, but I served in the US Army for 4 years from 1983 to 1987. When you sign you are committing to 6 years, and having served 4 years active, 2 years inactive status means you're still on the books and could be called to war. 1 year after, to the day of the end of my 6 year commitment was the start of the Persian Gulf War. So I'm glad I served, but am also damn glad, I served between US foreign wars... There were many NCOs when I was in who were Viet Nam vets.

And I was born in the middle of your tour - 1963. My Dad was in the US Navy from 1957 - 1961.
