    Hello,
Any help would be much appreciated.
I need to create text with a 3d extrusion. The catch is that the 3d lines can't converge to a point; they need to be parallel to one another.
The text would look like text extruded in a 3d program, only with the vanishing point relatively far from the text, thus giving the impression that the extruded lines are parallel.
Most likely i will need to send the art off to the printer in either cdr or ai vector format.
    thanks,
    phil

I think you are referring to Isometric projection. (See the image below)

If so, you can learn the basics of this by referring to John Clement's excellent XaraXone Guest Tutorial Basics of Isometric Drawing.

Blends and linear fills are also useful for creating the illusion of 3D in XaraX.

Thank you Jon. Xara 3d may work well, except i already have a few 3d programs. i'm trying to get around actually using one of them.

Gary, YES! isometric projection is it. i'm going to check out the tutorial by john clement. If it involves alot of steps i may just have to use the tutorial as a learning experience.

Chuck, your example is exactly what i'm trying to do. Actually, i have a friend who uses Coreldraw who gave me the same sort of work around that you did. Thank you for the image. i need to try to SHOW what i'm talking about from now on.

Well, the interesting thing about the isometric projected text is that i do have a piece of software, "Omega" that can create the projection in a manner of 2 simple steps. The problem is that it doesn't export the file into other software very well, although i can get it to work. ideally i would love to create the isometric text on a curve AND have it be fully editable.

I'll go through the suggestions and see what i can do.

    THANK YOU,
    phil

Xara has great 3d effects. I'm starting to bring it into the window & sign lettering, etc. i do for customers. It adds a little extra something...& its so simple to do.

Using Steve Newport's concept and then adding 3D element using Xara BLEND Tool.
