    Default Google Canonical Wrong Address

    Hello all.

I have been using GSC for a short time and just uploaded my website. However almost all pages are quie well displayed except the home page.
    My website should be http://www.sangchengmlg.com/home.htm
But Google mysteriously selected another website as the canonical page

The report showed it was a 'Duplicated' page but all it's similar pages are working well with or without 'www'

I have uploaded the sitemap.Add canonical tag in 'home' page's code by page's settings.Tried re-fetch but everything still works the same
And that's what their support replied me

    "Isn't wrong.

Same content on your site can be seen on:
    http://seniorsadvantage.me/work_1.htm
    http://www.ebuyhair.com/home.htm

    And why this happens:
    https://developers.google.com/search...duplicate-urls
"A copycat website: In rare situations, our algorithm may select a URL from an external site that is hosting your content without your permission. If you believe that another site is duplicating your content in violation of copyright law, you may contact the site's host to request removal."

    Regards,

    Peter"

I have tried all the things out and the only one left is the problem of Xara's template.I did use some of the templates and inserted them in my pages. However it triggers some of weird mechanics of Google-Selected Canonical. It's pretty strange so if anyone has answer.Even a little bit would help.

    Welcome to TalkGraphics

I think most browsers expect the home page to be index.htm or index.html. You have named yours home.htm.

depends on you host webserver - google will expect your home page to be named the same as your webserver directory default, which is usually index; remember anyone just typing in the .COM address is accessing the directory, not the file, and the server then decides based on it's settings which file to use; google will notice

That sounds quite reasonable. But how to explain that my Work_1 page also got mistakedly fetched by Google?By the way I also have an index page too and got fetched correctly but this home page wasn't.
