Gary, you've clearly put a hex on yourself.

When you do your slicing, do you put a No Fill , No Line with box on top of your pattern and then Combine Shapes > Slice?
This works well when the pattern has no Line Width shapes being cut through.

Far trickier when there are lines involved.

Yes, and I work in outline view at 500-1000% but there are still some problems when slicing a group of shapes.
