Default “Yeah, I was a tadpole too once”

    The common frog (Rana temporaria).

Always been fascinated by frogs and amphibious animals. This one hopped out when I was mowing the lawn. Quite beefy front legs, probably been down the gym.

Great shot. Lucky he did not get decapitated by your lawn mower.

    great

sadly the last time I saw a frog it was not so lucky - it had caught it's rear leg at the 'ankle' in a mousetrap and was dragging it along the floor of an old shed unable to get back out - sadly it died shortly after being freed

    Thanks both.

@gwp Yes, lucky I was looking. I would have been devastated.

I've just been reading about frog defence strategies and seems likely that it puffed itself up with air to look as big as possible. I’m not surprised it felt threatened with me crawling about on the ground.

@hd Sorry to hear your last frog encounter was not so nice. Here’s a pic to help banish that memory. When we weren’t looking these two made home on the window sill in our spare room. The cropping is a bit tight on the left edge, but at least that was all that was chopped.
