no no you are taking that as an answer rather than a clue - gary was on the right lines, right.... it's what do i see when i look at it; and it's a bathroom, call me old fashioned and british upper-middle class but our wc's are not in the bathroom

The stain does look a bit like a cloud creature with a head and outstretched arm squeezing out smoke.
that is very close to what i saw, in fact, you could not get closer; and yet, it is not what i saw

It reminds me of something from Yellow Submarine.
There's a row of holes and what seems to be a screw.
Is that what the mystery is?
I would assume they are to hold the board to rafters. It's possible you have infestation of the giant, mathematically precise woodworm that only makes holes at regular distances and in a straight line and collects screws as a form of bling?
you were much closer in your first post, but you saw the other side of the coin - what i saw was the dog's head facing left; it was a 'sketch' I could make use of
good observation - I would go with terry gilliam's cutout animations for monty python...Originally Posted by gcellison

I think the moral here is that the Cintiq is getting used too much..
the dog has a lovely expression on it's face - bemused and yet aware something has happened, such as it being suddenly frozen in time, quite possibly trapped in the flooring by a wicked genie in the shape of a sea horse lurking nearby...
I believe in using my eyes and my imagination as an artist, and hanging on to that childhood way of looking at things that is so very very special
