I think part of the problem here is the Windows Viewing utility. I published a test page and it looks fine in Firefox, but a bit dark in Edge.

I am not sure how the settings could affect the final image since the settings AFAICS only affect the ultimate file size. What am I missing here?

Also, if I select a WebP image on the New York Times website, I can drag the image onto the desktop. I cannot drag and drop my test image above.

UPDATE: Looking at my link in Edge now it looks fine.
