I agree hard tips are good for fine detail

Just recently I have made a concious descision to bite the bullet and pencil a lot more digitally - this means a very soft and gentle response from the pen in order to build up the lines [see my current avatar] and a felt tip has the tooth/drag/inertia call it what you will, that facilitates this

but that aside hard tips have always been too 'fast' for me, even for inking
