you can already open a webp in AF and save it as another file type - its good that they are adding this to their export

@ HD Yes you can but you currently open a jpg and save it as a webp image.
Meanwhile here's a great online convertor:

You can do the same in the browser and IrfanView. A Copy & Paste will add it in as a Bitmap to your Xara design.
If you want to embed your local filestore webp into your Xara design, there is a tricky way:
- Create a small Rectangle as your intended Thumbnail.
- Use Web Properties > Link > Link to file > Browse to webp & Apply.
- Immediately Link: Do nothing & Apply.
- Web Properties > Placeholder > HTML code (body): <img src="index_htm_files/webp" style="width: 100%; height:100%;" />
- Clone and make larger and place on a new Layer.
- Link from the Thumbnail to the new (pop-up) Layer & apply Settings.
You then only will reference the webp through your published or exported website:
Things to note:
- You need to keep/know the same image ratio as your webp.
- The Placeholder image will not appear so you are stuck with a coloured box. You could use the Copy & Paste as I described above for the Thumbnail. Do not do it for the larger image & Optimise Images too.
- webps are typically far smaller so embedding a portfolio does not blow the Xara design up as much as with JPEGs/PNGs.
- Do check all works with all your browsers.

Egg, here you are:
webp - Presentation Steps.xar
Do note you need to attach your own webp file or even use the Link to the one I compressed.
If still unsure follow the Steps with a new design file.
webps do not show in early versions of Xara Preview as these use IE.

Egg, I've tried my own instructions again with another image file and all works.
Either of these are good:
<img src="index_htm_files/bg_alt_4.webp" width=100% height=100% />
<img src="index_htm_files/bg_alt_4.webp" style="width: 100%; height: 100%">
The embedded file is in the exported index_htm_files folder:
