What is update policy on Xara web designer pro

Hello folks. What is the update policy on desktop version of Xara web designer premium? Is it buy once and update for lifetime or updates for a year or updates until major update?

Considering buying it but would like to clarify this update question first.

Once you buy the app you can use it forever. But the product updates and content such as the online Content Catalog are only available with the update option.

Sure. You can use it forever once you buy the app. Some product updates and content are only available with the update option.

EXAMINER'S ANSWER SHEET:

Specifically, Xara offers a lifetime use of the bought version only, unless it provides an adjacent Bug Release.
All other Patch Releases from your activation date within one year are available for use on two separate installs. Patching seems to be around three release a year.
Treat these releases as VapourWare as you have no right to them after the expiry of the Update Service; they will run alright until circumstances force a re-install (back to purchase or bug release above).
After the Update Service expiry, all on-line access, capability and content is disconnected. You are left with when you downloaded and used in any install and even this can vanish so special measures are required.
At this point the application is in a mode with tons of Nag screens within the application and at start-up. You can effectively visualise this as CrippleWare.
If, however, you follow up on the special measure, listed in TG, you will have a viable product. You can safely time out from the Update Service and pay for another year's cover at any later time.

It is one of the most non-intuitive approaches ever.

The alternative for the top of the range is to bypass Magix and go for the Xara subscription model for Xara Pro+ with Xara Cloud+. This is monthly or yearly.
Xara will offer a transfer of a licence under the Magix Update service pro rata for remaining cover and the Xara Desktop application (XDA) you purchased.
Xara Pro+ equates to XDPX. Pro+ is updated more often that XDPX.
Xara Web Design Premium (XWDP) is a subset of Pro+/XDPX. Design files written within Pro+/XDPX and XWD(P) are fully compatible but you may not be able to further edit some objects created it tne larger product; XWD(P) has a more limited User Interface.
Xara Pro+ >> XDPX >> XWDP >> XWD.
View Cloud+ as Pro+ in the Cloud. It is evolving slowly and allows collaboration and limited manipulation through a browser without accessing an XDA.

The magix catalog is full of old apps I am not sure they will ever stiop selling it...just xara willl ease off on the updates
