A Name is just an HTML Anchor. [Name: fredricka --> HTML: <img src="..." id="fredricka" ... />]
An Image Filename is an operating system label for the file that also gets an extension or .JPG or .PNGon publishing.
The Name can be used with special handling to create an Image filename - Name: filename="NameOfYourFile"; you still have to pick or have the XDA choose the extension.
This was an early kludge to allow images to have names so when they appeared in the design many times, only only file was uploaded.
This all worked until Variants or when you choose to Scale or you Tweak subsequent copies. The XDA could never decide which was the lead image and things got messy.
After years of hectoring, Xara added in the Image Filename box.
Its power is when you name lots of images with the same label, even if different pictures, Xara includes a simple numbering suffix to keep them separate. When they are the same, Xara only publishes the one file.
As ever, Xara has managed to mangle this and if you include a new image in poll position, Xara fails to update its internal register properly until you Save, Close and Re-open the XDA. PITA.
Xara will never fix this and I'll be explaining the workaround for years to come (c.f., the ISSUE over Bullet naming).
