    Default securing websites

    Hi all

I'm new here and relatively new to creating websites as well if I'm honest.

How do you secure a website hosted by Xara? I've just created a website but at the moment Facebook is refusing to publish it properly as it has only been registered around a week. I also intend selling ebooks from my site in the future so being secure is self-evident.

    My site is www.stevekellypublications.co.uk

At the moment I have a free family history magazine uploaded which I am trying to forward to - that's another story but when ebooks are finally available for sale securing the site for visitors will be vital.

    Any help will be helpful.

    Thanks
    Steve

    Thanks Steve
    Steve, welcome to TalkGraphics.

Sadly, if you are using the offered Xara-online service with something like "Website M" then it is actually hosted by Magix and it doesn't offer any SSH (https://) service.
Read over https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...373#post630373 for better alternative

If you are using a cPanel service then you can propably get a free SSH certificate: https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...re-SSL-(https).

    Good luck with your enterprise.

Acorn - If Steve gets a SSH certificate, does he need to do anything to his site to make it https?

Not to the best of my knowledge Gary. Magix hosting doesn't do ssl certificates.

Gary, as Egg says if Steve is using Magix, he is stuck.

    Thread moved.

But let's say Steve gets a real web hosting package and moves his site to the new web host. And he gets the SSH certificate, will he in that case need to do anything or will the pages just automatically be https? This question comes up from time to time and I really don't know how this works.

    Thank Gary.

All the detail is in https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...re-SSL-(https) that was in #2 Post.
Some Service Providers offer it all free within their service.

Thanks for that, Acorn. The only site I have right now that can use this is our eyeTricks Stereogram site and our partner hosts the site on his server so the ball's in his court.
