    Default de Havilland Vampire

Rehash of an old one, the de Havilland Vampire. First flew in 1943, first RAF aircraft to fly over 500mph, first pure jet to land and take off from an aircraft carrier, world altitude record of over 59000 feet, first jet aircraft to fly across the Atlantic.
    Short Shetland in background.

Very moody. It's hard to imagine that craft doing anything with an aircraft carrier.

Thanks Gary, but you have to remember this aircraft first flew in 1943 and was used right into the mid sixties by other air forces. As a first generation jet it was cutting edge technology. Completely outclassed when the second gen jets came into service like the F86 though.
Thanks Larry, I actually drew these planes about 17 years ago. I just did a little update on them and the background.

Excellent and good timing for your post (Halloween!) I'm familiar with the Short Sunderland but I had never heard of a Short Shetland. It really adds extra drama to the whole drawing.

Very nice Gray, where do you find all of these planes that I have never heard of? I know it is all probably all out there on the internet, but you must be a real aviation buff to come up with some of them!
