Also, when you find the image in the Bitmap Gallery, note the name and extension (for example 10259.jpg), and in Windows File Explorer, do a search for that file name and extension and it should locate the image on your computer.

That doesn't work for me?To recover a version, drag from the Bitmap Gallery onto your design page.
Select and File > Export JPEG (or PNG) and follow the dialogs thereafter.

I think acorn is referring to exporting the image held in the XAR file to a location of your choosing, thereby recovering a copy

btw: I remember reading somewhere when I first started with xara [so a long time ago] a suggestion by the company that you could use a XAR file simply to store bitmaps in - the options have widened considerably since then, but I still have XARs that contain the only copies of their bitmaps [the XARs are backed up of course ]

As I suggested, not to save an image but to find (as per the OP request) the location of an image.
OK. I know this image is on my D drive.
I wrote down the image file I was searching for based on the name of the image in Bitmap Gallery.
In File Explorer, D drive I searched for b & w 9.png
Voila!

Right click on any image in the Bitmap Gallery and select the Save menu option to save the original JPEG/PNG back to your file system.
I mention this approach and the one I covered above as all too often people delete original images.
It is also worth looking for a Masters sub-folder, typically alongside you XAR file location (probably not in Xara Web Designer though): Options > Photo Editing.
When you open an image file ain a Blank Photo template, you get this added bonus.
