Is there a way to create a graphic which has transparent areas that I can use as a Windows icon? I tried renaming a .gif file, but that doesn't work. Seems like this ought to be a "doable" task.

    Perhaps they don't support transparancy?

You need an application capable to save ICO format as Borland Builder Image Editor.

If all you want to create is an icon for the windows desktop.

Create a 32 x 32 pixel image as a BMP file and after saving rename the extension as .ICO

The pixel colour in the top left defines the transparent colour for the entire Icon.

    Peter,
I've read that, too, but it just doesn't work for me. Instead of turning that color transparent, it just goes to black. I'm using Win 2000

    I forgot this excellent tip. I run a test creating a 32 x 32 pixels icon in DRAW 10.

I exported via selected to Windows BMP. 4 colors on a Palette mode and background become white in the export filter, then it is transparent when I renamed BMP to ICO.

We experiment with it during the beta cycle, but I forgot about it. Thanks. It is a very good resource.
