Default Adjusting an XDP color palette based on Inkscape's "GNOME HIG Colors"

    Hi,

    I'd appreciate your help.
I created named colors (custom palette) in XDP having as reference Inkscape's palette "GNOME HIG Colors".
I've attached a screenshot of the Inkscape and my Xara's custom palette.xar.
A couple of issues have appeared, as shown in this screencast: https://bit.ly/2CJnPcI

    a) The color palette has 5 variations for each color, and I intend to create a lighter variation for each color.
Using Xara's Color Editor, I realized I can decrease the "saturation" to achieve the lighter variation.
However, I'm not confident how to establish a certain pattern to follow to create similar lighter colors for each base color.
For instance, decreasing 20 points from each color base, does it make sense as a pattern to follow when creating the new lighter colors?

    b) The color pink doesn't exist in Inkscape's palette "GNOME HIG Colors".
In that case, for now, I simply added Xara's "pale magenta" color as a reference to create 6 variations of pink following the pattern that the "GNOME HIG Colors" established to the other colors.
How can identify that pastern and create the proper variations of pink?

    Thank you very much,
    Carlos

I can't help you with your palette but I can tell you how I created my palette.

I create a new color based oh Hue with 20 points between each primary.

Each primary color has a full saturation version plus two lighter and two darker variations.

I have the palette of colors on the pasteboard of my default page so the colors automatically appear in the color line.

Plus there are shades of black from white to black at 5% intervals.

these days there are lots of online color palette generators to choose from - load up your inkscape palette and then all you need do is change its base to pink [or whatever] and the other stages will change in step - you then note the values to recreate in xara

    otherwise you learn colour theory

Thank you all for the replies and directions!

    @gwpriester
Regarding: "Each primary color has a full saturation version plus two lighter and two darker variations."
What were the parameters you change to create the two lighter and two darker variations from the full saturation primary color?

    decreasing saturation lightens

    decreasing value darkens

EDIT - sorry that should not have got posted just as it was, only a recap I was pulled away...

    so:

the way I look at this:

until you have a project it is pointless worrying about palette - you can have a choice of colours that you can use on the fly, and the program will hold these in a 'palette' - but a true palette is comprised of those colours that suit the mood etc of their project

so if all you need is some colours to use on the fly there is no hard and fast way of defining what you choose to include, personal choice

I think the answer is 'yes' to your first question (as per what handrawn just said), if the base colour is the same:

There's a Xara colour palette that might be worth investigating in this old thread from about 12 years ago! https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...?35124-Colours
